Telangana Kanti Velugu Scheme (Free Eye Checkup) – Complete Information

Telangana Kanti Velugu Scheme : Government of Telangana state has came up with a new scheme called as “Kanti Velugu”.  This scheme or project is supposed to be a Noble Project of achieving “avoidable blindness free” status by conducting a Comprehensive and Universal Eye Screening for the entire population of Telangana. The commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Telangana has submitted proposals and estimated budget is Rs. 106.8392 crores.

On the occasion of 72nd Independence day, Cheif Minister of Telangana, KCR has launched this Kanti Velugu Program in malkapur Village in Medak district. About 40 lakh people are going to get free glasses and nearly four lakh people will undergo surgery to correct different ocular problems. This is really a very good initiate by the government to provide Free Eye Checkup for the people of telangana state.

As per the details mentioned in the abstract following Eye ailments will be treated as a part of Universal Eye Care.

  • Refraction Errors
  • Cataract
  • Vitamin A Deficiency
  • Eye infections
  • Glaucoma
  • Corneal Disorders
  • Diabetic Retinopathy

Features of “Telangana Kanti Velugu” Scheme :

  1. Universal Eye Screening to be done for all the citizens of Telangana.
  2. All cases that require correction of Refraction Errors, Spectacles to be distributed free of cost.
  3. Surgeries will be organised in all cases of Cataract, Glaucoma, Retinopathy,
    corneal disorders etc.,
  4. All services will be provided free of cost.

Eye Camps will be conducted in all Gram Panchayats in rural areas and in all wards in Urban areas. Each camp will be conducted by a Medical team which includes a Medical officer, 2 to 3 MPHS (Male & Female), 1 to 2 Optometrists, Pharmacist, 2 to 3 ASHA Workers and a Data Entry Operator. In each camp, data of all the persons walking in for treatment will be captured electronically on a specially developed software so as to accurately track and follow up services for surgery as well as distribution of glasses.
